Come home in the summer
Live a life that you miss
It’s alright, I’ll fill you in, fill you in
Don’t you wait
For me to call your name again
On 25 June, 2011, The Cheaper Show will celebrate their 10th anniversary with a huge one-night art event in Vancouver, Canada. The show’s main premise is to promote the work of emerging artists by breaking down the barriers between artists, buyers, curators and gallery directors and selling all artwork for a set, affordable price of $200 CAD (approx. £127). During the past year over a thousand submissions were received from all over the world, these have now been narrowed down to 200 final artists, whose work will be available to buy.
The Cheaper Show began as a modest affair ten years ago, when three artists built the platform as a way to showcase their work. Now, the event is the “largest single-night cultural art event in Western Canada” and last year saw over 7000 visitors come to view the emerging talent.
In the video below Jessisa Delorme, the curator who had the task of reviewing over 1200 pieces, shows us some of this year’s highlights.
